I'm a sucker for Filipino food and recently moved to Waipahu, so there is a ton of choices. As soon as I saw the menu at Thelma's I had to try it. I always order dinuguan so I got that with the pork and pumpkin guisado and one order of pancit. They have two big boxes of pancit which was super surprising and it was really good!! The pumpkin in th guisado is perfectly cooked and isn't falling apart but perfectly tender. The pork in this is minimal which I actually liked and the stew was really tasty. I love dinuguan and I also love that a bunch of places make it different. The chunks of meat in it were larger than some other places I have eaten it which I didn't mind but it was way different than the others in presentation the taste was what I have come to expect from good Filipino food on Oahu. Everything was spot on. Can't wait to eat here more!!
So we were on our Oahu trip for a concert and my girlfriend wanted to eat here for breakfast.Sounds good.So it was our 1st time here. When We arrived it wasn't that Bz.So we just sat ourselves.Soon after our waitress came and greeted us and brought our menu's.After our drinks arrived we knew what we wanted to order .My girlfriend ordered the Thelma's breakfast special and I ordered the Thelma's special fried rice. The portions were just right!.My girlfriend enjoyed her meal. She said it hit the spot!..My Thelma's special fried was so good I inhaled my food!.Clean plate...My girlfriend made a right choice.Looking forward to the next visit!.Also our waitress was very friendly, and attentive!.Thank you 5 stars!.So if you're craving some delicious authentic Filipino food come here!.Definitely you'll be glad you did!.We were!..
Thelma's Restaurant - home of the famous Thelma's Special, the original Lechon Kawali. Thelma's is the top choice if you are craving for Filipino food. They keep their prices low and offer large portions of quality food along with great customer service. Every dish has an authentic flavor, like what Mom used to make but better. It does get busy during the lunch rush hours.
Great Filipino food that never disappoints! My favorite is the Thelma's Special and Adobo Fried Rice. Other favorites are Pork Guisantes, Chicken/Pork Adobo, and their Pancit Bihon. They have great combo options for 2 or 3 choices too. We usually call in our order and the service is fairly quick. Everyone is nice and helpful and it's convenient to do takeout.
Love coming here for my Filipino food fix. Service is always friendly and the atmosphere feels homely. Their food NEVER disappoints & is pretty consistent. Thelma's special is always a must.
I love this place. I have to stop here every time I'm in Waipahu. The interior is nothing fancy, really bare bones diner vibes. The service is usually good, occasionally bad, but I love the food so much I still give them 5 stars. I particularly love their: Pigs feet soup Adobo omelett Diniguan (best ive had on the island) Pinakbet Potato leaf salad (hard to find this in restaurants!) Pinakbet (great balance of ingredients) Pancit mix I'm not Filipino but I love Filipino food. Some things they do are done better elsewhere but overall, pound for pound, this is my favorite Filipino food restaurant.
The taste of the food is a 3, but the friendly people and prices make it a 4. This place has been around for over 30 years. They have longtime employees, and the owner's daughter worked when I went. So they must treat their people decent. It was quite busy with tons of pick-up orders. Like nonstop. The inside was clean, not really amazing as far as decorations, but it was comforting. I liked how it was a small family owned sort of business that made me feel younger. This place has very reasonable prices and tons of regulars. So many people said, "See you tomorrow/next week." Definitely a fun relaxing place to go to if you are in the area.
In spite of the long 20 min trek to Waipahu from town, this is a gem when you're craving Filipino home-cooking! Not known for its decor, the restaurant is clean and bright and inviting. The staff is friendly and accommodating no matter how busy it gets. And yes, this place gets pretty busy, with both sit-down and take out diners. The food is so good and reminds me of my childhood when Mom would cook every evening for dinner... but BETTER! Better because now I get to choose what delectable dish I feel like eating! My daughter orders the oxtail karekare without fail! The peanutty goodness is comfort food at its finest, and the oxtail is fall off the bone tender. Rice compliments this savory dish perfectly. I always like to get something sarciado...either prawns or boneless bangus (milkfish). This time our server suggested we try the pompano and we were so glad we trusted her advice! Instead of being fried crispy like the bangus, the pompano was moist and flaky and so flavorful...especially with the tomato-egg combination that covered it. So yum! And, of course, we always order the sari-sari with shrimp and EXTRA sabao (soup). EVERYONE loves soup and rice! Other must trys are the fried pork and Thelma's Special (lechon with onion and tomato). IF you still have room for dessert try the halo halo, you won't be disappointed.
The pork adobo fried rice with a soft scrambled egg on top was delicious. The mini portion was perfect for me and less than $7. Came in on a Wednesday morning and service was fast and the waitress was very sweet.
First time at the Waipahu Westgate Plaza Didn't realize parking was going to be difficult. It was around dinner time on a Monday. No open stalls, and cars waiting on the side for an available stall. My favorite spot for Filipino food is in Kapolei and didn't feel like driving that far. Having trouble finding somewhere I like close to home, trying here for the first time since the yelp photos and reviews seemed worth trying. Ordered take-out and here is my take on the following dishes: Pork Adobo Fried Rice- It was tasty, the pork pieces were all tiny but throughout. I'd order this again to go with another dish. Pork Adobo- A bit too oily for me, but the oil is probably what helped the pork from drying out. It was just okay, pieces were huge, some a little tough. Pork Guisantes- I prefer my pork guisantes with a vinegary taste. Could have used more red bell peppers or pimentos, but I liked it. Also, generous with the pork. and it was tender. I'd return and have this dish again. They were friendly. Waited about 20 minutes. I'll dine in next time.
